Week Fourteen: Storybook

This week students received an introduction to photojournalism. First, the Youth Art Team took a look at how photographers at the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier made decisions about how to tell the Youth Art Team's story in 2010, 2011, and 2012. Then as photojournalists, people who tell a story primarily through photographs, the Youth Art Team needed an experience to document with their cameras!

Students grouped into teams of two or three. The first group drew and/or painted a piece of artwork about what it means to be a peacemaker. While the second group photographed the process, students finished their artwork and walked with grownups to the homes of neighbors in the Walnut Neighborhood surrounding Harvest Vineyard Church, giving their artwork as gifts. Then they came back and switched, so each student had a chance to create and give a piece of artwork and to photograph the event.

"Blessed are the peacemakers..." (Matthew 5:9)

When the group reassembled back at Harvest, students shared a little bit about the people they met and considered how the Youth Art Team acted as peacemakers that day.

Next week students will sort through their prints and add captions to tell the story of their day before moving onto the next lesson!
