Thursdays beginning March 24 through April 21, 2011, a group of K-12 students will “lift up their voices with a shout” as they share stories of our community and their own lives through art.
Youth Art Team members will:
- discover artwork around our community and experience the ways artists transform space.
- gain experience by interacting with people working in various professions to help complete the project.
- bless our community by “lifting up their voices” to design the Youth Art Team's very own public art piece.
How? The six-week session includes:
- a driving city art scavenger hunt in Downtown Waterloo and a mural art scavenger hunt at the Waterloo Public Library.
- a visit from local artist who will share experiences in creating public artwork.
- completion of a mural painting.
We expect Youth Art Team members will:
- make every effort to attend each meeting and arrive on time.
- participate enthusiastically.
Members can expect Youth Art Team leaders will:
- give students an opportunity to develop skills, knowledge, confidence and leadership abilities.
- remind students of the gifts God gave them to become the person He created them to be.
- provide a chance for students to demonstrate to people around them that they are positive contributors and caring members of our community.
Youth Art Team is hosted by the partnership between Harvest Vineyard Church (Waterloo) and Orchard Hill Church (Cedar Falls) and is offered at no charge to participants.
