Night #3

While one group continued working on mug designs:

another group talked about the elements of a production (then groups switched). The team honed in on the idea of a tall tale and thought about what makes an interesting character.

To wrap our mind around that idea, we watched a tall tale about John Henry (in two parts, sorry):

And students waded through photos of set design examples, costume samples, show posters/tickets/playbills, and watched videos that exhibit creative production solutions.

Then. We talked about choosing a theme. Students voted on three ideas:

1. Tell the story of how a particular phrase or saying came to be. (Examples: "In a pickle," "Let the cat out of the bag," etc.)
2. Write a tall tale about our community. (Examples: What happened when our cities' founders first arrived in 1845? Tell a tall tale about the life of a local hero.)
3. Create a tall tale of how and why the Youth Art Team came to be.
