And just to be sure credit is given where it's due, adult helpers did not paint the "Love is Power" across the top of the mural with students. The talented Josh (East High School) and Elijah (Irving Elementary School) spent one afternoon drawing a grid on the wall and slowly transferring the letters – square by square – from paper to the wall with charcoal. Then more Youth Art Team students helped them fill in the words with brown paint. Painting the words "Love is Power" – by students only – was one of the trickiest and most impressive parts of the mural's creation. The only time an adult used any kind of material on the wall was to help students outline themselves in charcoal after students decided how to pose – not an easy feat since they had to figure out how to squeeze all 19 members into the space. Once a student was outlined in charcoal, the Youth Art Team went in with the paint. No adults allowed!
